Navy Vet Discovers New Skills and Talents at ECPI University

Cyber and Network Security Graduate Seamlessly Transitions from On Campus to Online

When CaSaundra Salgado started thinking about life after the Navy, she looked at a variety of civilian careers. While Cyber and Network Security was an attractive option, she was nervous and more than a little uncertain. “I felt as though I would be the only student coming into the field knowing nothing about technology,” she says. “As it turned out, I was not the only student completely changing career fields and the faculty was so welcoming, understanding, patient, and down to earth.”

At ECPI University, faculty members know how to work with students who thought tech careers were beyond their reach. “We offer a real-world experience, coupled with virtual technologies that allow us to give students a glimpse into the actual IT environment that they will be working in,” says Dr. Gary Mansi, a member of ECPI University’s online cyber and network security faculty. “To me, relating IT to the real-world and showing a student the actual IT environment are the two most important aspects to facilitating the transition of a novice student into an IT professional.”

CaSaundra began her studies at the Virginia Beach campus, but after she was deployed, seamlessly transitioned to the online program. She has now earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Cyber and Network Security and a Master of Science degree in Cyber Operations.
